CASE SUMMARY: In 1999, Ruvalcaba had the victim in a car when he threatened to kill her, punched her in the head 15-20 times and stabbed her in the chest before pushing her out of the car and driving off. The victim was left COMPLETELY BLIND IN ONE EYE with permanent damage to her optic nerve. She also had a metal pen tip lodged in her head, a punctured lung and a puncture wound near her wrist. He previously punched a woman in the stomach knowing she was pregnant, continually hit her with a flashlight and punched her in face. The victim ended up miscarrying. When she got pregnant again, Ruvalcaba was upset that it was a girl. He strangled the victim to the point she thought he was going to kill her. After her baby was born, Ruvalcaba threatened to kill the victim, the baby and himself. Soon after, he bit the victim’s eyebrow, leaving a serious flesh wound, and strangled her until she almost lost consciousness. Before that victim, Ruvalcaba abused another woman over 17 years, including chasing her with a gun and hitting her in the head with it. When the victim fell to the ground bleeding, Ruvalcaba sat on top of her, stuck the barrel of a gun into her mouth and told her to beg for her life. In another incident, Ruvalcaba held a knife to a baby’s throat and said he would kill the baby if police showed up.

CASE SUMMARY: Starting in the mid-1990’s, William Doughtie molested a child when she was age 4 and continued until she was 15 years old. In one incident when the victim tried to get away from Doughtie, he pinned the victim’s arms over her head and punched her in the eye with a closed fist. The victim then stopped resisting and was afraid to report the abuse. The victim reported that Doughtie sexually molested her 80 to 100 times.

CASE SUMMARY: In April 2001, the victim was walking on Stockton Boulevard when Eghtesadi and his female co-defendant stopped and asked her for directions. The victim then asked Eghtesadi for a ride home, but he drove her to his apartment instead. Once inside, Eghtesadi and the co-defendant committed numerous and unimaginable sexually sadistic violent assaults on the victim. The victim was eventually allowed to leave and noticed money and pictures missing from her purse. When she confronted Eghtesadi about her belongings, Eghtesadi took a knife and held it up in a stabbing motion. The victim left and contacted police. The victim stated she wanted Eghtesadi to receive the maximum sentence allowed.
PRIOR HISTORY: Eghtesadi had an active warrant on the Attempted Murder, Forcible Rape, Lewd Act on a Dependent Adult and Forcible Sodomy charge for stabbing a woman twice after scaring her into performing oral sex and having sexual intercourse with him in 1998. In February 2001, he forced another woman to perform oral sex and sodomized her while pressing a knife against her ribs. He then forced her to have sexual intercourse.

CASE SUMMARY: In the mid-1990s, Vogelsang molested five boys who were only 5 to 11 years old. Vogelsang grabbed and kidnapped one of the victims and attempted to kidnap another victim. He stated his preference was boys age 5 to 11. In addition to child sexual assault, he was also heavily into child pornography.
RISK ASSESSMENT: At his last parole hearing in 2024, he was found unsuitable for parole because he posed an unreasonable risk to public safety. Just one year later in 2025, he was granted parole – even though a risk assessment performed by a forensic pathologist found him to be above average risk of reoffending. This is a direct quote from the inmate at the parole hearing: “…you have to stop masturbating to images of child in your mind or real child pornography, leads to molestation, molestation leads to kidnapping and the kidnapping leads ultimately to murder of a child.” The report states Vogelsang’s crimes provide evidence of recurrent, sexually arousing fantasies, urges or behaviors involving sexual activity with prepubescent male children and evidence that he acted on these urges. He was diagnosis with Pedophilic Disorder, Sexually Attracted to Males.
