CASE: Mark Boatwright (Case #24FE020464)

PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Amanda Sanchez, Special Assault & Child Abuse Unit

On December 15, 2025, the Honorable Shauna Franklin sentenced Mark Boatwright to 160 years in prison.  On November 13, 2025, Boatwright pled to nine counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, five counts of forcible lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, 10 counts of forcible rape, one count of oral copulation by force and one count of sodomy by force. He also admitted to allegations of substantial sexual conduct; that the defendant took advantage of a position of trust; the victim was particularly vulnerable; and the crime carried out indicates planning, sophistication, or professionalism.

Boatwright began sexually assaulting the victim when she was 5 years old. The assaults began with touching and digital penetration. By the time the victim was 8 years old, the abuse progressed to sexual intercourse, oral copulation and sodomy. When the victim was 12 years old, Boatwright told her that he would kill himself if she told the police so she would keep it a secret.  A second victim was 12-13 years old when Boatwright began sexually assaulting her. Boatwright’s electronics revealed sexually explicit photos of one of the victims with sexually derogatory writing on her body. They also found contracts in which Boatwright detailed sexual acts he wanted the victims to do, and edits made by one of the victims protesting what Boatwright was demanding.  One of the victims disclosed the sexual abuse when she was an adult in November 2024.  Boatwright tried to run away when an attempt was made to arrest him at his home in Placer County, but Placer County sheriff deputies were able to take him into custody.

Under current California law, Boatwright (age 63) will become eligible for release at an Elder Parole hearing once he has served 20 years of his 160-year prison sentence.  With his in-custody credits, that will be in approximately 19 years.
