Ricky Sims was convicted by a jury of the first-degree murder of Marya Guillen. The jury also found true an allegation that Sims personally used a deadly weapon.
Ricky Sims and the victim shared a residence. On August 15, 2021, Sims called 911 and told the dispatcher that he stabbed the victim in self-defense. Law enforcement arrived on scene and located Sims covered in blood. The victim was located inside her bedroom with 54 sharp force wounds, including 45 stab wounds to her face, head, neck, and extremities.
Sims faces a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for October 23, 2026, at 9:00 AM in Department 12A before the Honorable Tami Bogert.
