Defendant Sentenced for Domestic Violence, Forcible Sexual Assaults

On March 21, 2025, the Honorable Amy Holliday sentenced Josani Goree to 57 years and 4 months in prison. On October 9, 2024, a jury convicted Goree of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sodomy by force, domestic violence, terrorist threats and damaging a wireless device.
In May 2024, the victim tried to end a dating relationship with Goree. One night, Goree made the victim drive him places in her car by strangling her, hitting her and breaking her phone when she tried to call for help. Over the course of the night, the victim tried to get away by pepper spraying Goree and trying to run away from him, but she was not able to escape. Goree took the victim to an apartment where he forced her to perform sex acts on him and raped her. The victim reported the attack the next day. An exam showed the victim suffered multiple injuries including bruising, redness and swelling. DNA collected from the victim matched Goree.
